From the Vintage Recipe Box: Cold Oven Cake (1976)

One of my favorite discoveries has been just how many wonderful old recipes are still worth making today. This one, a Cold Oven Cake, came to me by way of B. Dylan Hollis (YouTube and TikTok creator), whose love of vintage recipes inspired me to give it a try.

I was intrigued by the unusual method – placing the cake in a cold oven versus a preheated one – but the results completely won me over. The cake bakes into a beautifully tender, buttery pound cake with a delicate crust, and it’s every bit as delicious as it is unique. Some old recipes have earned their place in history for a reason, and this one is definitely staying in my recipe box.

One of the many times I’ve made this recipe. One trick I would suggest is spraying the Bundt pan with Pam spray with baking powder. The cake will slip out of the pan nicely.
Delicious plain, with drizzled glaze, or my personal favorite, fresh-sliced strawberries and whipped cream.
